Level 1 Engineering

Thinking about a career in engineering, but unsure of which route to take?

If so, this course is a great introduction to engineering, helping you to explore the diverse avenues within this exciting and lucrative sector.

You’ll try a variety of practical tasks and working techniques across different areas of engineering, from basic fitting and milling to producing engineering drawings.

By the end of the course, you’ll gain an insight into the range of routes you can follow into the industry.

Initial assessment and an interview will be part of the recruitment process and it is expected that the candidate will either hold or demonstrate that they are working towards level 1 in English and Maths, either through certificates or the initial assessment process. An aptitude for physical task is also essential for this course.

Completion of this course will enable progression (subject to conditions being met) to the following related courses:

  • Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship 
  • Level 2 C&G 2850 Diploma in Engineering
  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Systems Maintenance
  • Diploma in Electrical Installation Level 2
  • Diploma in Plumbing Level 2.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
