This one year introductory qualification gives learners a taste of the skills involved in Electrical Installation.
During the course you will undertake a broad range of basic activities designed to prepare you for entry into the electrical Industry with the primary emphasis on Electrical Installation. You will be expected to plan, prepare for and carry out hand fitting activities. You will produce a work plan containing job instructions, materials, tools, equipment and components that may be required for the activities. The course is assessed by practical tasks, written assignments and online multiple choice tests.
70% of your time will be spent in our purpose built workshops at the college's Green Lane Campus, which have been expertly designed and laid out to simulate construction industry conditions.
Here you will develop your skills under expert guidance from your tutors, who are all industry qualified and highly experienced. The remaining 30% of your time will be spent in the classroom, where you will learn the background knowledge and theory of the skills you are acquiring.
You be will be required to complete tasks and projects, which will build in complexity and difficulty as you progress, enabling your skills and knowledge to be fully developed and tested.

There are no formal entry qualifications, however a good standard of maths and English is expected as the course contains both theory and practical elements for successful completion. All applicants will undertake an initial assessment to establish the appropriate level of study. There are opportunities through the Pathways to Building Services programme should a student not meet the necessary requirements for direct entry onto am Electrical course.
Applicants may also complete a dexterity test in the form of taster days. This will give you an insight into the course and establish suitability and level of entry.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to, subject to interview, references and maths/English results, progress onto the City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations or into an apprenticeship with an electrical contractor.
