ESOL (16-19 year olds)

Are you 16-19 years old? Want to improve your English speaking skills to help find work? 

This full time programme allows 16-19 students with English as second language to develop their language skills, alongside employability skills, maths and ICT.

The programme will help you develop your English skills at an appropriate level, and you'll undertake qualifications that will support progression onto higher levels of study or into the workforce. 

The three ESOL qualifications are in Speaking & Listening, Reading and Writing, and will allow students to develop useful skills for everyday life in English such as:

  • Constructing simple sentences
  • Presenting information through writing
  • Listening for key information
  • Recognising letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
