Computing (Software Development) HND (TOP-UP)

Our HND is a highly practical course with a central focus on software development. It gives you a comprehensive understanding of database design using Oracle, computer games development in Unreal Engine and Android mobile app development. The units of study reflect the current employment opportunities within the industry, such as business intelligence, and technology innovations, with a unit of study dedicated to emerging technologies.

The course also aims to develop essential and transferrable employment skills such as communication and interpersonal skills, leadership and the dynamics of working with others in teams.

A nationally recognised level 5 computing qualification, the HND is ideal for those who have started, or are planning to move into, a career in the computing industry or who wish to progress onto the final year of a degree programme.

A level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Computing. All applicants will require an initial assessment and interview, please apply through UCAS.

You can progress to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree, depending on the match of the HND units to the degree course in question. Employment or self-employment.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
