Looking into a career in Event Planning? Think you have the skills to plan and organise an event for yourself?

This course will get you on your way. This Level 2 qualification is for those who see a career in events planning or so they can progress onto specialist positions within the hospitality industry. Here at Walsall College we have a team of highly trained professionals that have a real passion for the industry with many years of experience. We can provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to work towards a number of different avenues that you can take when you enter into the wide world that is the hospitality industry.  

The course is split into seven units, which supply students with theoretical knowledge necessary across all areas of the industry. These units cover various aspects of the Hospitality industry as well as giving you the opportunity to practically organise and run an event for yourself!

Students will develop their skills in communication, organisation and will also gain valuable hands-on experience serving members of the public in our commercial restaurant, The Littleton. As well as this you will also be involved in managed kitchen exposure which will support your knowledge and understanding of all areas the hospitality industry including, health and hygiene and food safety.

Although no formal qualifications are required for this course, you will need to have the following:

  • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
  • A real passion for working within the hospitality sector is essential

Your suitability for the course will also be discussed during an interview with a tutor.

On completion of this qualification candidates may progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • General management and supervisory qualifications
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality with Events (90 Credit)
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Hospitality with Events
  • BTEC Level 4 HNC In Hospitality Management

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
