Carpentry & Joinery Level 1

Both practical and classroom sessions in the full time course are designed to introduce the world of carpentry and joinery to individuals interested in pursuing a career in this craft. Typically successful students will progress to Level 2 or an apprenticeship in the construction industry.

By interview and Record of Achievement. No formal qualifications are needed. All applicants will undertake an initial assessment to establish level of ability and will partake in dexterity testing. This will give you an insight into the course and establish suitability.

Progression to Level 2 Diploma or a Construction Apprenticeship will be based upon a satisfactory reference from your Level 1 Personal Tutor to include professional attitude, attendance, punctuality and performance.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
