CACHE Foundation Diploma in Caring for Children Level 1

The perfect introductory course for individuals wanting to work in childcare and education. Students will develop basic skills and learn more about the growth, learning and development of children.

The course will teach you about children throughout their different stages of growth and development, and you will learn how to best support a child's learning. It consists of a variety of units, including 'Human Growth and Development',

'Supporting Babies to Play' and 'Healthy Eating for Families'. All of these units will be assessed using a variety of methods, ranging from oral questioning to designing charts and leaflets.

There are also lots of creative classroom activities to participate in throughout the course, and the opportunity to undertake real work experience. Completion of this course also allows learners to progress to CACHE Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce Level 2.

An initial assessment will need to be undertaken and an interview conducted to assess suitability for the programme.

A distinction profile is required to progress to Level 2.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
