BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance)

Choosing to study the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) is a brilliant decision to make for lots of reasons. Dance is a unique profession, allowing you to explore diverse styles and genres of dance. It takes dedication to develop your skills – many dancers work long hours and it can be physically, emotionally and financially draining. It takes training, a good understanding of your responsibilities and a commitment to teamwork to succeed.

A BTEC Level 3 Diploma will help prepare you for a career in the performing arts industry, developing your knowledge and skills as well as giving you a feel for the demands of working in the industry.

Students will explore a range of styles and techniques including: Classical Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Dance. Practical skills will be delivered through workshops and small and large scale performances supported by a team of specialist staff. All students will be expected to keep detailed self-reflective logs of their activities as well as carrying out research tasks, evaluations of their work and reviews. This qualification offers a professional and highly practical experience, you will become part of the college’s own Dance company.

5 GCSEs at grades C/GCSE grade 4 or above including English Language. Or a Level 2 related qualification. All applicants will need to attend an interview and audition, applicants should prepare a solo performance in a dance style of their choice.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
