BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion

This exciting course provides students with the opportunity to experience a broad range of subjects that strongly reflect practices used in the fashion industry.

After the initial stage of the course, in which you follow a programme to develop your creativity and technical skills, the programme follows specialist fashion pathways, including pattern construction, garment production, surface pattern and drawing development.

There may be opportunities for trips abroad, as well as chances to enter into various competitions and shows. All students could have the opportunity of taking part in a fashion show or high profile fashion shoot.

Extensive private study is required and the course offers opportunities to gain further qualifications in Functional Skills English and Maths.

4 GCSEs at grades C/GCSE grade 4 or above including English Language and/or Maths. Or a Level 2 related qualification. All applicants will need to attend an interview.

Successful completion of this course may lead directly onto a Foundation in Art & Design, a HNC in Fashion of BA (hons) degree at university.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
