BTEC Level 3 - 4 Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art & Design

Want to turn your talents and hobbies into a career?

This dynamic programme will get you started. The course will take you on a journey, from learning your craft to using your skills to express yourself and your ideas.

Throughout the course, you will work towards building an integrated portfolio, which will include a range of pathways that you'll explore:

  • Fine Art
  • Printmaking
  • Fashion and Textiles
  • Graphics
  • Photography
  • 3D Design

At the end of the year, you'll take part in a final major project that will be planned and executed by yourself and your peers. Some time will be spent exploring a range of progression choices, and tutors will work closely with you to help them decide on their future creative path.

A formal interview with portfolio. 1 A-Level grade C (or equivalent Level 3 qualification) in a subject and a strong GCSE profile including English at grade C/GCSE grade 4 or above. AS qualifications are also welcomed. Mature students with alternative qualifications and/or work experience are welcomed, as are equivalent international qualifications.

Students should be planning to progress onto degree level. All FAD students apply and most are successful in their Higher Education application.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
