BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Health & Social Care

The Level 1 Diploma in Health and Social Care is ideal for anyone who is interested in a career in health and social care. This includes jobs such as care workers and healthcare assistants. Following completion of the course, learners will have the opportunity to progress to a related Level 2 course, or seek employment straight away.

The Diploma consists of a variety of units that will provide basic skills and knowledge of the field of Health and Social Care. Topics covered include:

  • Human Growth and Development
  • Creative activities for young children promoting healthy eating in care and encouraging children to eat healthily
  • Communication with adults and children in health and social care.

Ideally prospective students should hold a minimum of 2 GCSEs D-G / GCSE grades 3 - 1 although students without qualifications may apply.

A Pass profile is required to allow progression to Level 2.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
