Bricklaying Level 1

Looking to start a career in construction? Want to be your own boss or gain an apprenticeship?

This course can get you started. Our Level 1 Bricklaying Diploma is a great stepping stone for those wishing to gain employment in the construction industry, start up their own business or gain an apprenticeship.

Designed for students aged 16 yrs plus, this course will well suited to those who enjoy working in a practical environment laying bricks and heavy blocks and those who prefer to work outdoors. You will develop and enhance your skills, which will allow you to progress onto the Diploma Level 2 programme.

You will be selected through an interview and your Record of Achievement. No formal qualifications are needed and all applicants will undertake an initial assessment to establish level and will complete a formal interview. This will give you an insight into the course and establish suitability.

Progression to Level 2 Diploma or a Construction Apprenticeship will be based upon a satisfactory reference from your Level 1 Personal Tutor, which will include professional attitude, attendance, punctuality and performance.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
