Award in English for Literacy and Language Teaching

Are you looking to start a career as an English teacher? Want to support the development of functional skills in the subject?

This course is designed to develop your own literacy and language skills as well as language awareness and teaching skills in supporting students with literacy and language needs in the classroom.

A good stepping stone for further progression, this course is designed to equip participants with sufficient personal language skills. With these skills, they can gain access to a subject specific teacher training programme or support the development of functional skills within the classroom or workplace.

The course is made up of four mandatory units:

  1. Analysing English language for literacy and language teaching.
  2. Reading skills for literacy and language teaching.
  3. Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching.
  4. Writing skills for literacy and language teaching.

Applicants must hold a qualification in, or be able to evidence English at Level 2.

Level 5 subject specialism in English or ESOL.
