AQA Level 3 IT Cyber Security and Security Administration

This technical qualification is aimed at learners who are seeking to develop skills and access a range of junior cyber security roles in a variety of sector settings. Focusing on computer networks and the development of an understanding of threats and vulnerabilities, all based on underpinning units in the fundamental principles of computing and communication technologies, this qualification will prepare learners to gain the essential skills, knowledge and understanding needed for progression into following careers:  

  • IT cyber security administrator
  • IT cyber security operative.

This qualification has been developed under the guidance of The Tech-Partnership and the British Computer Society (BCS) who are the sector's primary professional bodies. The learner will cover topics such as:

  • How devices communicate, focusing on both physical transmission methods and the media they use
  • Designing and developing a simple computer network from a user specification and creating a maintenance plan

  • The identification and resolution of a range of threats and vulnerabilities.

Transferable skills are those generic ‘soft skills’ that are valued by employers and higher education alike. The following transferable skills have been contextualised into the content of the qualification: 

  • Research

  • Communication (oral).

Companies that might employ someone with this qualification include:

  • any company or internet service provider in this sector
  • large commercial businesses

  • the education sector

  • charities.

5 GCSEs at grades C/GCSE grade 5 or above including English Language and/or Maths (some courses may require both, please check with course tutor at interview). Or a Level 2 related qualification in a related subject area plus Maths and/or English at Level 2.
 

 Progression to HNC or HND Computing or employment.

Maths & English Requirement

English and Maths is a mandatory part of the 16-19 study programme.
If you have GCSEs in English and Maths at:

  • A* - C or 4-9 - You will continue to study English and Maths but do not have to take another exam.
  • D or 3 - You will need to resit your GCSE English and Maths at college.
  • E, F or G / 1 or 2 - You will study for Functional Skills until you get to Level 1. Then you will take GCSE English and Maths.
