Access to HE Diplomas are well established national qualifications, which allow students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply for Higher Education courses either at university or at Walsall College.
Our Access to Higher Education Diploma: Education course runs over one year and offers a route for adults to enter the teaching profession. The pathway specific subjects cover education practice, English literature, science, history, psychology and sociology, and provide a thorough preparation for Higher Education. Assessment is through a combination of assignments and examinations. Homework or private study is required. Students are also strongly advised to source a placement in an appropriate educational environment.

You will need to have previously achieved a GCSE grade C or above in one or more of the following subjects: Maths, English or Science. You will also need to be able to demonstrate that you are currently working at Level 2 competency in Literacy and a minimum of Level 1-2 in Numeracy through a rigorous interview, online Initial Assessment and a written comprehension exercise. You will need to possess the necessary motivation and determination to succeed on an intensive programme and must have at least three years work/life experience following full time compulsory education.
You can progress onto a degree course in a variety of fields such as education, English, creative writing, sociology, psychology and childhood and family studies. Successful completion of the unit assessment is required for progression.
