The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) offers qualifications set at Level 2, as a common starting point for a career in Accounting and Finance, providing the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or to further study.
The Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is a shorter qualification available at Level 2, built up into the Foundation Certificate in Accounting.
This qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively. The course offers an introduction to manual double entry bookkeeping, including associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping to basic costing principles and using accounting software. Our Online & On Campus approach enables students to benefit from both face-to-face teaching at the college and online lessons available on demand. This format offers a truly flexible study experience.
In addition to attending face-to-face classes, students will be expected to undertake 6 hours of additional study every week out of college.

A good standard of literacy and numeracy (ideally grade C or above at GCSE). Current (or recent) practical experience.
Upon achieving the qualification, students can complete the remaining mandatory units set at Level 2 to obtain the Foundation Certificate in Accounting. These qualifications allow progression to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma which can be used as a route to professional AAT Bookkeeper status (AATQB). The Level 4 Professional Diploma can be used as a route to professional AAT Accountant status (MAAT).
