Jay is the Senior Employer Engagement Coordinator at Walsall College. He has worked in the Further Education sector for nine years, five of which have been spent at Walsall College as part of the Marketing, Sales and Work Experience team.
As a target driven professional, Jay works in a cross college role liaising with tutors, students and departmental managers to maximise employer engagement. To help students become work ready, he works alongside SMEs, as well as national and regional employers, to provide high-quality work experience and industry placements. These include high-profile companies, counting Barhale Ltd, Midcounties Cooperative and WHG.
Alongside his role, Jay has also been a part of the safeguarding and equality & diversity team and currently is a trained Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) to raise positive health and wellbeing for staff in the college.
During his time with Walsall College, Jay completed a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, and received a STAR award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Experience.
Jay is also a graduate of the University of Birmingham, having been awarded a BA (Hons) in Social History and Education. He then went on to complete his teacher training course at the University of Worcester, specialising in Further Education.
As a fully trained teacher, Jay has extensive experience in many aspects of student engagement, from mentoring and employer liaisons and providing pastoral support.
He has previously worked at Serco as a Specialist Advisor Trainer, supporting schools and staff in developing attendance and behaviour support strategies.
Jay also worked at Bournville College, teaching health and social care, alongside leading on the department’s employability programme.
His personal interests include travelling and general knowledge quizzes.
Jay was appointed to the Corporation in March 2018.
