Spotlight on Talent: Sunjay Midda
Sunjay Midda
Studied BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting)
“As well as acting, learning about the business side of things really prepared me for what the industry is really like. I signed up to WGM Talent who got me the audition for Doctors.”
Performing in a college production at the Birmingham Hippodrome to an audience of a couple of thousand, gave Sunjay a taste of what was to come in his career. A month after achieving his qualification he landed a part in BBC serial drama ‘Doctors’, where his talents are now seen by a TV audience in the millions.
“After completing my GCSEs, I initially stayed on at sixth form to do A-levels and tried a few different courses but deep down my dream was to be an actor.
“I was really excited about coming to Walsall College as I was inspired by former students who had gone on to do well in the industry. My time at the college definitely lived up to my expectations and gave me a great platform to start my career. I gained a lot of experience and developed my skills performing in a range of shows to live audiences in the college’s own theatre. Through the college’s links to the Hippodrome, I also got the chance to audition for a production of Swan Lake and was thrilled when I was chosen for a part.
“I’m now working alongside experienced actors in a job I love, and hopefully this is just the beginning. I’m planning on travelling to America to start auditioning over there which I’m really excited about.”
