Spotlight on Talent: Samantha Dorrance
“The course made me look at my work in a different way. I’ve always done theatre work since a young age, but the course allowed me to discover more genres of music and keep me open minded with my own music writing.”
Samantha Dorrance
Studied BTEC National Diploma in Music – now a singer/songwriter and has performed in the West End
“Studying Music at Walsall College was a great experience for me and I made some good friends and contacts that have helped me in my career. After completing the course I landed the lead role in the West End play, Dreamboats and Petticoats playing the part of ‘Laura’. We toured the show all over the UK and Ireland and I loved everything about singing and acting on stage.
The course made me look at my work in a different way. I’ve always done theatre work since a young age, but the course allowed me to discover more genres of music and keep me open minded with my own music writing.
I’m now focusing on my music career and have been writing material for my own album which I hope to record soon. The feedback I’ve had during gigs I’ve done in the UK and Europe has been very positive so I’m really excited.
I believe in exploring all the opportunities that are available in the industry and have also written and produced a TV show for kids and filmed a pilot episode.
Every job is different and you never know what you’re going to do next. In the future I want to be very successful and be known and respected for my work.
I’d recommend the college and the course to anyone with a passion for music. The atmosphere here is fantastic and I really enjoyed the fact that it is a practical course and you get to perform in a band at a range of events.”
