Spotlight on Talent: James Prestage
“I feel I am where I am today because I was empowered by my tutors to get the most out of my education. They helped me to push myself further creatively.”
James Prestage
HNC and HND in Graphic Design
After completing his HNC, James felt ready to do a HND at university. But only three weeks in, he missed the supportive environment offered by Walsall College and chose to return.
It was a decision that paid off, as he achieved a distinction and is now working in a senior graphic design role for a leading international law firm.
“The tutors here are very passionate about graphics and I always found the lessons really interesting. Tutors were also always on hand to help outside of lessons if I needed then and their knowledge about the industry is immense.
The course itself was very comprehensive and gave me a good understanding and knowledge of the skills needed to enter the industry. After completing my HND I started my career as a junior designer at Arup, one of the top engineering companies in the world.
“I then moved into the legal sector at law firm Trowers and Hamlins, where I was hired to help build their visual brand as well as their internal design offering and also managed a regional marketing team. I am now part of the business development team as a Brand and Design Advisor at law firm Kennedys.
“The best part of my job is creating refreshing and reinvigorating designs that the whole firm can get behind and developing brands that will be seen by millions of people around the world. I feel I am where I am today because I was empowered by my tutors to get the most out of my education. They helped me to push myself further creatively as they enabled me to be more analytical.”
