Spotlight on Talent : Charlie Heaton
“I began a new post as an Assistant Service Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which is making great use of the skills I have gained through my previous apprenticeships.”
Charlie studied a Level 4 Business and Administration Diploma. She is now an Assistant Service Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Keen to pursue a career she was passionate about, Charlie applied for a Level 2 Business and Administration apprenticeship for the Dudley Group of Hospitals, with training provided by Walsall College.
“I worked full-time in the HR department within the medical workforce, which is the doctor’s HR. After completing that apprenticeship, I moved onto a RTT Tracking Clerk role within the surgical management team – part of my Level 3 course with the college.”
Charlie then progressed onto a Level 4 Business and Administration Diploma and became a Deputy Manager, before gaining a position as a Directorate Support Manager for Surgery, Urology and Vascular at Dudley Group of Hospitals.
“I was in the Directorate Support Manager role for a while, before I decided that I needed a new challenge. So I began a new post as an Assistant Service Manager at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which is making great use of the skills I have gained through my previous apprenticeships.”
Charlie is now undertaking a Level 5 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship alongside her role.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the College. My assessor pushed me to do my best throughout my journey and I highly recommend these courses to anyone who wants to move into management via the apprenticeship route.”
