Students Celebrate One World Week

Between 1 – 5 February, Walsall College will be holding their One World Week, an annual celebration of the international mix of students at the College. It is an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds to come together and learn about important issues such as cultural awareness, citizenship, human rights, disability awareness and religion and belief awareness.

During the week, the Made of Music Collective will be performing and putting on a workshop for students, with their unique brand of Dhol Drumming and Bhangra Dancing. Steel With Strings will also be delivering a Steelpans workshop.

Seminars will be held throughout the week, exploring vital issues from around the world. Representatives from various organisations will be visiting the college to give presentations, including Amnesty International, Oxfam, the Terrence Higgins Trust and Christian Aid. Asda will be providing a World Food Stall with free tasters and students will also have the chance to see films, with international themes or significance.

Student Services Information Advice and Guidance Officer, Melanie Kerr commented, “One World Week at Walsall College is a great way of highlighting important issues from around the world and providing students with a chance to learn more. It is also an opportunity for students to expand their cultural horizons and take part in fun activities alongside their usual college week”.
