Staff Drive Up Skills
Eight successful members of staff at Walsall based company MacNeillie, have recently been awarded with NVQs in Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations by Walsall College.
As market leaders in specialist vehicle conversions and a long-established supplier to the emergency services and the military, safety is paramount at MacNeillie. Since undertaking fully funded NVQs in Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations, health and safety has become even more important at the firm, ensuring more streamlined and safer work processes are in place.
The MacNeillie warehouse staff undertook the NVQs through Walsall College, fully funded through the Government’s Train to Gain scheme. All training and assessment was delivered onsite at MacNeillie, causing minimal disruption to output. HR Manager, Helen Welch said, “The training was carried out very smoothly. The Assessor worked alongside the staff with no disruption at all in a very busy department”.
All eight members of staff achieved their qualifications and were presented with their official certificates by Assessor, Tony O’Sullivan. The company is now looking to put more staff through work-based qualifications, including ITQ, Team Leading and Business Administration.
Storeman Ken Ward was delighted with his qualification, stating, “The course was very good and allowed us to learn new things, as well as prove what we already knew. Since completing the course, we have all started to look at things in a differently and approach our work in a safer way”.
Stores Manager, John Smith said, “I’m proud of them all – they did really well. Although our Store Workers are already extremely experienced and good at what they do, onsite training helps to sharpen their approach, increase their awareness of health and safety issues and give them more confidence in their role”.
Assessor Tony O’Sullivan added, “MacNeillie is an extremely busy site so it was imperative that the training caused the workers minimal disruption. I worked alongside the staff to train and assess and they did everything I asked of them. It is always a pleasure to celebrate the success of our candidates and they should all be very proud of their achievements”.
