Revved Up to Compete!
This week, Budding Mechanics at Walsall College were all revved up and ready for action for a motor vehicle competition designed to test their skills.
Level 2 Motor Vehicle students competed in a week of heats and the finalist of each heat then went head to head in the overall final, which took place in Walsall College’s motor vehicle workshops on Friday 23rd April.
During the competition, students were set a range of timed tasks to test their mechanical skills and proficiency, including raising a vehicle safely from the ground, choosing appropriate tools to remove the tyres and servicing the tyres.
The overall winner was Scott Wall, who was awarded the title ‘Level 2 Technician of the Year’, as well as a trophy and a range of industry related prizes provided by Bridgestone Tyres, Draper Tools and Beckett Abrasives.
Walsall College Motor Vehicle Tutor Dominic Whelan said, “Competitions like this one are a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills they have developed on their courses and have the added bonus of one of them being able to stand proud amongst their peers as the overall winner”.
