High Demand for Recruitment Day

Eager job hunters flocked to Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus on the 11 and 12 October to take part in recruitment days in its Jerome’s Restaurant.

Unprecedented scenes greeted the recruitment days, which saw close to 4000 people vying for jobs at the brand new Morrisons store in Willenhall, which is currently being built.

The event is part of a wider partnership between Walsall College, Morrisons and Jobcentre Plus. Earlier this month Jobcentre Plus and the College held an Open Day to enrol 50 unemployed people on a pre-recruitment training course being delivered by the College.

This course will entitle everyone who completes it to a guaranteed interview with Morrisons. The course consists of training for Food Hygiene, First Aid, Team Work, Communication, as well as support in interview techniques and the completion of the Morrisons application form.

The College’s Employability Team Leader, Karen Matthews said, “The popularity of this event really illustrates the high demand for jobs that exists at the moment”.

She added, “Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and local employers allows the College to provide opportunities for local people from various backgrounds to get back into work. We also have funding available to assist those who are unemployed to re-skill / up-skill if they are unsuccessful”.
