College Supports Dignity Action Day
On the morning of Thursday 25th February, Care students and staff at Walsall College did their bit to make sure that dignity is a reality for all, by supporting national Dignity Action Day.
Students and staff held a Dignity Challenge in Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus, encouraging people to sign up as dignity Champions and make an online pledge of what they will do to support dignity in the workplace. Care students and staff were on hand on the day to provide information, along with representatives from local organisations from the care industry.
Most of us at some point in our lives will be in contact with care services, be that in our work, as a service user, carer, relative or friend and when we do we hope we will be treated with Dignity and respect. Over 2 million health and social care staff in the UK work around the clock to provide support and care for those in need. Over 11,000 of those staff have joined forces to provide a more dignified service in their place of work.
Walsall College Care Trainer / Assessor, Gemma Ward, commented: “Walsall College is proud to be supporting Dignity Action Day, encouraging people to treat others with respect and dignity at all times both in the Care profession, and in the workplace as a whole. Support for the campaign has been fantastic, with over 100 people making pledges to make a difference within their workplace.”
Dignity Action Day is a national initiative led by the Dignity in Care Campaign to bring staff and members of the public together to make a difference to those in care. Dignity Action day gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care. Dignity Action Day aims to ensure people in care are treated as individuals, are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily activities and are provided with stimulating activities.
