College Partners Celebrate Campus

On Wednesday 15th July, Walsall College held two events to celebrate the completion of the new Wisemore Campus with our partners, stakeholders and local businesses.

Business Breakfast
The day began with a Business Breakfast, where representatives from local businesses enjoyed a buffet style breakfast in the College’s new Jerome’s restaurant. Our Hospitality and Catering students did an excellent job in assisting the caterers in cooking and serving delicious food and drinks, whilst giving guests a warm welcome to the new facilities.

After breakfast, Principal and Chief Executive, Amarjit Basi formally welcomed guests to the new campus, encouraging them to take an active part in the College’s future. Deputy Principal, David Wheeler also spoke to attendees about the apprenticeship opportunities local businesses may wish to take advantage of.

Guests were then taken on tours of the new facilities, including the new ‘Meeting Place’, which will be available for businesses to hire out from September.

VIP Preview Evening
The evening event saw a range of College partners and stakeholders attend to celebrate the completion of the campus. Representatives from a range of organisations were present including, Regional Directors of the LSC; the Chief Executive of the Walsall Regeneration Company; the Managing Director of Shepherd Construction and Principals and Head Teachers from schools, colleges and universities from across the region. Also attending were a range of College Governors, including Chair of Governors Steve Somerfield.

Hospitality and Catering students once again assisted the caterers in preparing and serving the refreshments and provided guests with an outstanding service.

During the evening, attendees enjoyed fantastic live music from ‘Destination’, a band comprised of Walsall College music students; as well as surprise music from ‘The Three Waiters’ who wowed the audience with an impromptu operatic performance.

Amarjit Basi commented, “The Wisemore Campus is a triumph for partnership. The completion of the campus is a touchstone for the regeneration and provides opportunities for the College to be a leader in new ways of learning. This is a significant step in realising our vision and we are optimistic, eager and equipped to rise to the challenges the future will bring”.

Dr Peter Cromar, Chief Executive of the Walsall Regeneration Company added, “The new College building is the first part of Walsall First and the beginning of a long story of regeneration in Walsall. The campus is a tribute to team working and will provide a truly inspirational learning environment”.

The evening closed with tours of the world class facilities, followed by tea and coffee in Jerome’s Restaurant. Feedback on the day was excellent, with guests displaying an overriding sense of enthusiasm and excitement for the future of Walsall’s College.
