Two Graphic Design students have recently combined creative forces to win a logo design competition.

Daniel Phidd and Ross Palmer created a winning logo for local product designer, Guy Cowdry, who has designed a new concept for material shopping bags with an innovative security design.

Guy challenged students to create ideas for the logo for his new brand, KeepItSafe and to create a unique trademark that will be used on the bag and future KeepItSafe products.

Daniel and Ross’s concepts were chosen by Guy to be combined in order to create the final definitive trademark, and both were presented with a prize for their excellent designs.

Graphic Design student, Ross Palmer, said: “I really enjoyed designing the logo. It was good working on a live brief for a real customer. It’s exciting to know that the logo will be used and seen by a wide audience. I eventually want to go on to become a graphic designer and experience like this will give me the skills to do well in the industry”.

Designer of the KeepItSafe bag, Guy Cowdry commented: “It was great to give students the opportunity to make a difference, both to me and to their portfolios. The students gave me a huge range of ideas for the logo which compare equally with what any graphic design house could create. The students will now have the opportunity to see their logo being mass produced on all KeepItSafe products”.

National Diploma Lecturer, Kevin Myler, added: “Projects where students engage with real life practitioners and products are essential in developing portfolios that make them employable and industry savvy. Guy’s input has been invaluable, and the students can all incorporate this experience into CVs and portfolios, in readiness for progression from the course. Students have reacted swiftly to this project, in addition to regular coursework they undertake. This is something they will face in real time design; they must expect the unexpected.”
