Walsall College has recently been presented with the exciting ‘One to Watch’ accreditation, after success in the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ annual survey.

The prestigious accreditation was presented in recognition of Walsall College’s ongoing commitment to employees and our focus on offering staff a range of opportunities for training and career development.

Best Companies established the accreditation award scheme to acknowledge excellence in the workplace. Based on employee feedback, it looks at employee engagement as an integral part of a company’s success and growth, and sets a benchmark for other employers.

The accreditation scheme follows a Michelin star style system with companies awarded one star for first class, two stars for outstanding and three stars for extraordinary performance. As a member of the ‘One to Watch’ elite, Walsall College is now on its way to achieving star accreditation in the future.

Stephanie Everitt, Head of Human Resources, said: “Taking part in the 2011 Best Companies accreditation process was an excellent way to benchmark ourselves nationally against public sector companies. It allowed us to showcase our achievements and best practice, and look at areas for improvement. As we enter times of unprecedented change in the public sector, engagement with staff becomes more important than ever.

“Employees at Walsall College deserve excellence, and achieving Best Companies ‘One to Watch’ status shows that we are the journey to achieve that. External recognition of this kind gives applicants an assurance of our culture and the benefits of working for Walsall College. Achieving this award has been a source of considerable satisfaction and we look forward to entering the competition again”.

Jonathan Austin, CEO and founder of Best Companies added: “This year it is encouraging to see that more and more organisations are recognising the value of employee engagement and are willing to benchmark themselves against the best to ensure they are offering their employees the best possible experience. Organisations that have achieved accreditation have continued to focus on their employees and have been rewarded with engaged workforces who tell us that these are great places to work.”
