Walsall College is Highly Commended!
Walsall College has been applauded by Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) for its commitment to listening to students. The College was Highly Commended in two important categories, Provider of the Year and Leading Learning of the Year.
The Highly Commended Provider of the Year Award was presented for the College’s outstanding commitment to empowering learners to have a voice and using it to make a real difference within the College. Construction student, Gary Wilkinson was awarded Highly Commended Leading Learner of the Year for his exceptional commitment, efforts and advocacy on behalf of his fellow learners.
The Learner Voice Awards are organised by LSIS to celebrate the best examples of provider, practitioner and learner leadership in recognising and promoting the learner voice.
The Provider of the Year Award is aimed at educational providers who recognise the value of learners’ views in improving the provision and systems in place. Walsall College was specifically praised for listening to students through an active Student Union, a comprehensive Student Representative system and an annual Student Conference. Walsall College is committed to gathering student feedback and using the information to introduce changes to the current systems and invest in new facilities to improve the overall learning experience.
Gary Wilkinson commented, “It’s a great feeling to have won this award. My time at Walsall College hasn’t just been about my experience, but creating a legacy for the students of the future”.
