VQ Day Celebrated at Award Ceremony!
Walsall College celebrated national VQ Day and the success of our V6 students on Tuesday 22nd June, during its V6 Awards Dinner.
The event was a celebration of the hard work and achievements of our V6 students. During the evening, a range of outstanding students were presented with Student of the Year Awards for achieving excellence in their area of study, along with an award for the overall V6 Student of the Year.
Walsall College’s V6 is a 6th form with a difference, providing students with the vocational training to become Walsall College Graduates; skilled, professional and enterprising. The VIP glittering ceremony included a pre-drinks reception on the College’s roof terrace, a four course meal prepared by hospitality and catering students and live entertainment.
Taking place during the week of VQ Day, a national celebration of vocational learning, the V6 Awards Dinner provided a glittering ceremony for outstanding V6 students to shine. VQ Day, which took place on Wednesday 23rd June, was a national celebration of vocational qualifications for students, teachers and employers to raise the profile of vocational qualifications and celebrate vocational success.
The guest speaker on the evening was Kimberly Davis from BBC TV show, The Apprentice. In her professional career, Kimberley has worked on several high profile projects including The VH-1 Vogue Fashion Awards, Garth Brooks Live in Central Park, and many more. She pioneered The Manhattanville Music Business Conference, was the Marketing Director for several New York City radio stations, and wrote for music magazine, The Inside Connection, for more than 10 years. During her speech, Kimberley congratulated the award winners, giving them inspiration to continue their hard work and achieve career success in the future.
The winner of the Overall V6 Student of the Year was construction student, Charlotte Booth. Charlotte has always been eager to learn and has advanced through the units of her BTEC National Diploma in Construction at advanced level. Along with her college studies, Charlotte has also secured a permanent position with Jessup Developments as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. Charlotte commented: “It feels fantastic to have been voted Walsall College V6 Outstanding Student of the Year. I have always wanted to go into Construction and be a part of new building projects. I am now using the skills I have gained on my course in the workplace and I love it. When I have completed my courses at Walsall College, I plan to go to university to take a degree in Quantity Surveying and I eventually want to become a full time Quantity Surveyor”.

Holding the event during the same week as the national VQ Day is our way of supporting the initiative and recognising the success our students achieve on a grand scale. These exceptional students are real life examples of students who have excelled through vocational learning and are a real inspiration to others”.
