Walsall College Creative Arts students are currently preparing to stage a spectacular Winter Festival in the College’s Wisemore Campus theatre, The Venue.

The Winter Festival is an exciting collaboration between performing arts and music teams, offering an eclectic mix of live music, dance and theatre.

The Venue at Walsall College, which is partnered with the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre, gives Performing Arts, Dance and Music students the ideal location to showcase their talents to a live audience.

There are a range of shows available to buy tickets for, including ‘Lady M’ by performing arts students, an adaptation of Macbeth set in the nineties in Eastern Europe. Dance students will be performing Concepts of Dance: an evening of dance pieces in a range of styles, including contemporary, jazz, urban and choreographic repertoire. Music students will be taking part in the Winter Sessions, with performances that include artists such as Jessie J, Maroon 5, Queen, Marlena Shaw, Adele, Bruno Mars, Katie Perry, Lady GaGa, Carrie Underwood, Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy and Kansas.

Music Lecturer, Derek Pountney added: “Whilst the main aim of these sessions is to demonstrate work in progress related to their qualification, we are also keen that the students are able to apply these developing skills to real life working conditions that reflect industry working practices. We are extremely lucky to have such enthusiastic and talented students on our music courses and we hope that the friends and families of the students are able to attend the two days of live performances and will be proud of what they see and hear”.

Dance Lecturer, Julie Wright said: “Students are currently working really hard to make the Winter Festival a success and we are delighted with the quality and range of the work students have been producing. Not only is the festival a chance for family, friends and members of the public to see the students perform, the performances will also form part of their assessments. The festival is a fantastic combination of drama, dance and music and we are hoping to stage more of these events in the future”.

Performances for Walsall College’s Creative Arts Winter Festival will be taking place until 14th December 2011. Tickets for all evening shows are priced at £3 and are available from the College’s Graduate Salon by calling 01922 657063.
