A Walsall College hairdressing student has recently snipped her way to success in the Wella Professionals XPOSURE hairdressing competition, securing Silver in the national final.

Lucy Gibara, 21 from Sutton Coldfield, had previously impressed a panel of industry experts in the regional heats of the competition to become one of five students from across the region to compete in the national final in London on 9th June.

During the competition, students were tasked with creating a total look, including a commercial cut and colour, make up and clothes styling. They were then given an hour to style and finish the hair before being judged.

On the day, Lucy was given the Silver award along with £500 worth of training vouchers for Wella and a voucher for Wella equipment.

Wella Xposure is the leading nationwide hairdressing competition for students. Now in its second year, it offers hairdressing students nationwide the opportunity to compete in an inter-college challenge.

Ideal for those looking to take their first step on the competition ladder, XPOSURE celebrates imagination, creativity and talent amongst young hairdressers. The contest is the ideal springboard to success for any college hairdressing student, with winners receiving great exposure within the industry.

Francesco Group’s Director of Hairdressing, Anya Dellicompagni commented: “I am thrilled to be a part of this fantastic competition. I believe that encouraging young people to showcase their skills at this age will ultimately help instil the passion and motivation which they will need to reach their full potential in the competitive hairdressing industry”.

Lucy commented: “The Wella XPOSURE competition was a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable experience and I am ecstatic to have won the Silver prize in the national final.”

Paula Seeley, Hairdressing Lecturer for Walsall College, said: “Taking part in competitions is a great way for students to test their skills against their peers, pushing their creativity and talents to the next level. We are delighted Lucy has won Silver in the national Wella Professionals XPOSURE hairdressing competition. Being one of five students from across the region to be selected for the final was a fantastic achievement and to win second place overall proves that she is one of the best new talents across the country”.
