Unemployed people looking for a way into work were able to receive advice during a jobs and training fair at a Walsall College on Wednesday 27th October.

The day-long event at Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus allowed those seeking a new career to learn more about courses and job vacancies. Representatives from Walsall College and businesses were on hand to help people with advice and guidance.

People who visited the fair were able to view the latest job vacancies including opportunities from Clamoore Home Based Care, Complete Care, Jobcentre Plus and new apprenticeships.

Attendees on the day were able to find out more about taster sessions running at Walsall College before Christmas and the courses available for them to enrol on, beginning in January 2011.

It also provided parents with the chance to learn about opportunities for their children to enrol at The Children’s University on Saturdays during November.

Among those to attend was Sean Howarth, aged 19, of Burntwood, who previously worked in a factory and is now seeking employment.

He said: “I am looking for a career. I came here today as I wanted to see what is around and if I can get a job. It is frustrating being out of work. This is the first event I have been to and I have found it very helpful”.

Amarjit Basi, Principal and Chief Executive of Walsall College, said: “In the current financial climate, many people are struggling to find employment, are looking to boost their current qualifications or are interested in retraining in a different area. This event provided local people with vital opportunities to access the training and employment that will put them on track for a brighter future”.
