The Walsall Jobs Fair took place at Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus on Thursday 22nd September, attracting hundreds of enquiries from people interested in permanent vacancies and temporary work over the Christmas period.

Representatives from a range of companies exhibited at the event held in the College’s atrium, from large employers, support services and training providers, including Walsall College itself, who helped over 6000 adults to up-skill or re-enter employment last year. The College also works with a range of businesses, offering extensive apprenticeship opportunities and work based training.

Employment opportunities with companies such as Next, Matalan, Argos, Royal Mail, Debenhams and New Look were available on the day, with representatives from Job Centre Plus and Steps to Work also in attendance.

Anita Roberts, Business Development Executive at Walsall College said: “The Walsall Jobs Fair was an excellent opportunity for job seekers to meet with employers directly and find out more about job opportunities and apprenticeships. It is also a great solution for employers who are looking to fill posts in a limited timeframe”.

Amongst the attendees on the day was Carol O’Brian from Walsall, who was looking for a cleaning or food preparation role. Carol commented: “I have been unemployed for a month and heard about this event at Bloxwich Job Centre. It’s good to have so many employers in a place which is easy to come to. There are that many people out of work at the moment, so events like this are really helpful”.

Tahmeena Mumtaz from Steps to Work added: “Jobs Fairs are a great way to make people aware of our services and the opportunities that are out there. We offer training to help people with their CVs and break down the barriers to employment which many people face”.
