From Apprentice to Director!
Former Apprentice, Scott Wright has come a long way since starting his course at Walsall College at the age of 16. In just two years, Scott has gained his apprenticeship, worked for the College and is now Director of his own IT Company!
After finishing his course in April 2011, Scott worked with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, developing a comparison website in partnership with Black Country Training Providers.
In October 2011 Scott decided to start up his own IT Company, and gained a contract with a project running at Walsall College, ‘The Young People In-Company Innovation Programme’. During his time on the project, he mentored students and ran individual IT projects.
Scott now works full time as the Director of Scott Wright IT Services, and has recently opened up a new office in Birmingham City Centre.
Scott commented: “It’s fantastic to be the Director of a successful business at just 18 years old and I am currently working to grow the company further to expand into different markets. My company has recently secured a contract with an American company to distribute software in the UK. I would say in the next couple of months, I will be taking on an apprentice for myself!
“The Apprenticeship gave me the hands on experience to pursue a career in what I love doing, IT. It introduced me to the working world with beneficial qualifications. Never did I think I would go from being a student at Walsall College to being a member of staff, and later to start my own business. I could not have done it without the support and inspiration gained at Walsall College”.
