Come and Have a Go at Apprenticeships
As part of national Apprenticeship Week (6-10 February), Walsall College is holding an Apprenticeship Careers Day on Wednesday 8th February for anyone interested in finding out about Apprenticeships.
Visitors will have a chance to speak to employers and their Apprentices to find out how the courses have worked for them and also try their hand at various activities, at both Wisemore and Green Lane, between 11.30am and 1.30pm.
The practical ‘Have a Go’ exercises available at the event will include workshops in Computing, Interior Design, Art and Design, Gas, Painting and Decorating, Signmaking, Brickwork, Customer Service, Carpentry and Joinery and Motor Vehicle.
Organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), Apprenticeship Week is designed to highlight the talents and skills of apprentices and celebrate the value of Apprenticeships. Over the years Walsall College has worked with hundreds of companies across the region, who have benefited from training an Apprentice. Apprenticeships give students hands on experience in their industry of choice, giving them the opportunity to gain the necessary skills for success and earn while they learn.
David King, Head of Employer Contracts at Walsall College said: “Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular amongst those looking to build practical skills and industry knowledge, in a specific sector that lead to a nationally recognised qualification. Employers are also realising that Apprenticeships are a valuable method of finding and developing fresh talent.”
“The event is a great opportunity for anyone interested in doing an Apprenticeship to come and find out more about what they entail and which sector, from the wide range of options available, would be best for them.”
As part of Apprenticeship Week, Walsall College will also be attending road shows across the Black County including the Civic Hall in Brierly Hill, Banks’ Stadium in Walsall, The Public in West Bromwich and Molineux in Wolverhampton. Representatives from each of the College curriculum clusters will be on hand to offer visitors information and guidance on the many Apprenticeship courses available at the College, and there will be a number of ‘Have a Go’ activities to get involved in.
