Walsall College celebrated national Colleges Week on Monday 8th November by hosting a Business Forum and Supper for around ninety local businesses.

Colleges Week 2010 takes place between 8-14 November and has been running for three years. It is the education sector’s major showcase for the vital role that Colleges play in providing people of all ages and businesses in the UK with the opportunities they need to succeed.

The business forum, held by Walsall College in association with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Walsall Business Parks and Hadens Solicitors, supported Colleges Week’s Training for Business Growth campaign, by working with businesses to help them survive and grow in the recession.

Held in the College’s Jerome’s Restaurant, the event took the form of a trade fair, offering professional specialised advice to help local businesses prosper.

The informal event also gave local businesses the opportunity to gain new contacts and share best practice with each other.

This year, Colleges Week is all about helping students make informed decisions about which route to further education is right for them, under the banner, ‘Your future, your choice’. The week’s activities will celebrate the diversity of College activity in a variety of ways, from sporting fundraisers, to social networking competitions to media launches and business events.

Organised by the Association of Colleges (AoC), it showcases how Colleges are at the heart of their communities by developing skills and building social mobility and shines a spotlight on the world-class College workforce that underpins this success.

Bev Ramsell, Head of Business Development at Walsall College, said: “We are delighted to have celebrated Colleges Week with a Business Forum and Supper event, in association with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Walsall Business Parks and Hadens Solicitors. Walsall College has a clear mission to engage with the local business community and to help employers access the information, training and support available to them, particularly in the current economic climate. We will continue to hold events like this in the future to benefit local companies”.
