On Wednesday 23rd November, 150 primary school pupils from Walsall Children’s University donned robes and mortarboards for their very own graduation ceremony at Walsall College’s Wisemore Campus.

The Children’s University is a national organisation that provides 7-14 year olds with exciting and innovative learning activities outside normal school hours.

Walsall Children’s University aims to raise aspirations amongst primary school pupils in the district and reward them for the time they spend in out of school hours learning activities. During the ceremony, each student was presented with a certificate to mark their participation in the scheme.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Rena Saggu, Walsall Children’s University Manager, and students celebrated their achievement in academic tradition by being presented with a certificate on stage from Walsall Children’s University Chancellor, double Olympic medalist Nick Gillingham MBE.

The event was attended by around 500 guests, including parents and guardians, primary school teachers and local dignitaries, including Mayor of Walsall, Gary Perry. Walsall College Media students filmed the graduation, to ensure the memories could be relived and cherished by the students and their families for years to come.

Walsall Children’s University Manager, Rena Saggu said: “On behalf of all involved, I wish to offer hearty and sincere congratulations for all their efforts and success. We hope that students enjoyed the night of celebration and use this success to spur them on to further learning”.

Lauren Phipps, Schools Links Manager at Walsall College said: “Working with the Children’s University has allowed us to work with a range of stakeholders, organisations and schools to build a community that champions success and achievement. Hosting the event in our world class campus is an honor and demonstrates our passion for celebrating the success that Walsall College students have achieved with partners across the borough”.
