BBC WM presenter, Joanne Malin helped Walsall College celebrate national Adult Learners’ Week and the success of its students, during its Adult Learners’ Awards Dinner on Thursday 19th May.

The former Central News presenter was guest speaker at the event, which was a celebration of the hard work and achievements of its adult learners. During the evening, 20 outstanding students were presented with Student of the Year Awards for achieving excellence in their area of study, along with an award for the overall Adult Learner of the Year, won by HND Graphic Design student, Adam Collins.

The VIP glittering event included a pre-drinks reception, a four course meal prepared by hospitality and catering students and the presentation of the awards to outstanding adult learners.

Taking place during Adult Learners Week, a national celebration of vocational learning, the Adult Learners’ Awards Dinner provided a high profile ceremony for outstanding adult learners to shine.

Adult Learners’ Week (14th – 20th May) is a celebration of the energy and inspiration that adults bring to their learning. It seeks to use the achievements of students to inspire others to have to go – whether it is learning a new skill, learning for fun, or catching up on learning missed at school.

Alex Lofthouse, Assistant Principal at Walsall College added: “The Adult Learners’ Awards Dinner was an ideal opportunity for Walsall College to celebrate the fantastic achievements our students have achieved. Holding the event during Adult Learners’ Week is our way of supporting the initiative and showing people how learning can change lives. These exceptional students are real life examples of students who have excelled through vocational learning and are an inspiration to others”.
