Students from a range of areas including Business, ICT, Fashion and International recently held a video conference with students from a college in Russia.

The video link-up allowed the students to chat to each other about a range of issues including, what modern society is like; what they are doing to prepare for HE / university; the problems they face as young people; fashion trends and leisure activities.

Here’s what some of the students who attended the conference had to say about it:

‘The experience was great and gave us an insight to their leisure activities and their education’.

Chantal Asman

‘I found the Video Conference to Russia a new experience and an interesting insight to how other people in a different country live, and how different their opinions are to ours.

I enjoyed learning what other people think about our country and their reactions when we told them about things, such as music and fashion. In some ways we are not that different at all to Russia, but I do think a difference is their music style and also fashion’.

Kelly Butler

‘The event was really enjoyable; I gained a lot from this experience and as a business studies student being able to learn about other countries was particularly useful’.

Anwar Shamim

‘I was very impressed by their English skills; as an International student myself from Germany, I was able to understand the Russian teenagers a lot easier as they were very fluent in their English skills’.

Soeren Andre

‘I thought that it was good to talk about the problems people from Russia face, as we found out that the problems we face are very similar. Also, it was good to exchange information on latest fashions and the music in the UK and Russia as it gives us an impression of the culture there.

The experience was good for both us and the teenagers from Russia because it helped me to see that although we live far apart and our cultures maybe different, we still share some of the same views and problems’.
