Students' Date with the Mayor
A group of German students who are spending a month in Walsall as part of an exchange project were guests of the Mayor and Mayoress this week.
Mayor Councillor John O’Hare and Mayoress Mrs Diane Leese invited the seven young people to the Mayor’s Parlour in the Town Hall to find out more about their time in Walsall.
The students, who are all aged between 17 and 20, are spending four weeks in Walsall as part of a student exchange organised through Walsall College.
Mayor Councillor O’Hare said: “The Mayoress and I were very interested to find out more about their time in Walsall, and what they’ve learned and enjoyed most about their trip.
“I think it’s very important for young people to experience life in another country.”
The students, who are from Witten in North Germany, have been staying with local host families in Walsall, Brownhills and Aldridge and have been shadowing officers from various council services.
Karen Young from Walsall College said: “We have been receiving students from our partner college in Germany for over 10 years. Since this time we have welcomed over 300 students to the College. Each student will study English part time and work in local companies gaining valuable work experience. Local companies receive students year after year because of their strong work ethic and positive attitude to gaining new skills”.
