Goodbye and Auf Wiedersehen!
This week sees the end of three month’s study for a group of 21 German students who have been studying Business English at Walsall College for one day a week. The students, who are from a partner college in Witten, near Cologne in the North of Germany have enjoyed an impressive 100% success rate in their examinations.
When they first arrived three months ago, the students even had the honour of meeting the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Tom Ansell when he visited the College. They have also participated in voluntary work in local companies such as Lemforder UK in Darlaston and Huf UK in Willenhall, to gain an insight into UK business practices and valuable work experience.
Karen Young, International Co-ordinator said “Local companies are delighted to welcome trainees back year after year because of their enthusiasm and their strong work ethic. It hasn’t been all work; however, the students have also found plenty of things to do in their spare time, including visiting the New Art Gallery Walsall and the Black Country Living Museum, as well as immersing themselves in the local night life!
“Walsall College welcomes students from all over the world and the College has many overseas partners. International students frequently comment on the friendliness of local people and how much they enjoy living in the town. This group has been no exception and the German Market in Birmingham has provided them with a home from home”.
During their stay, the German students stayed with local families and due to the increasing number of International students, Walsall College is always appealing for new host families to step forward.
Those with a spare room in their house and an interest in people from other countries can act as a host to International students and earn up to £100 per week for full board. Student Benjamin Stüwe said, “I am very thankful for the unforgettable impressions and positive experiences I gained during the stay in Walsall. Not only has my English iimproved; I learned that a good cup of tea needs milk and time! We all had a wonderful time studying here in our second home, Walsall”.
