On Thursday 11th November, the International Team held a Cultural Evening which was attended by around 80 attendees from around the world, including China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Lybia,Jamaica, USA, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Hong Kong, Angola, Malawi and Kuwait.

As well as a range of students, some of our partner agents were also able to attned, including Kranti Chopra from Europe Education Providers, who recruit students from India; Jalal Aljayyousi from International Education Links, who recruit students from Saudi Arabia and Heike Fahrenholz from Germany.

The evening was a real celebration of cultural diversity, allowing guests to learn new things about each other’s cultures, including national dress and sampling dishes from around the world.

The evening was a wonderful example of cross curriculum partnership, with hospitality and catering students cooking and serving the food, and music students providing the evening’s entertainment.

Karen Young, International Support Co-ordinator, said: “We were delighted our students were able to use their talents to create a fabulous event. It is clear the College has some budding stars of the future in both the music and hospitality industries. Once the meal was over, the students danced the night away. It was brilliant to see the home and international students mixing and everyone learnt some new dance moves. Our international student numbers are increasing every year and these events provide an ideal opportunity for students to make new friends and develop friendships which can last a lifetime”.

Manjeet Kumari-Lal, Head of International added: “It was a pleasure to welcome our international students and international partners to the first international social event of this academic year. Our international students continue to make a significant contribution to our organisation, promoting cultural diversity within the College and local community. International students help to enhance the cultural awareness of many of our local students, and go on to actively promote the benefits of becoming a Walsall College Graduate within their own countries and the organisations which they progress to.

“Wonderful hospitality was provided by students and staff from the Services to People Cluster, and fantastic entertainment provided by students and staff from the Creative Industries Cluster, demonstrating the best of Walsall College. Well done to all for a thoroughly enriching evening.”
