Apprenticeships allow young people aged 16 – 18 to have a paid job and achieve qualifications including an NVQ Level 2 or 3 by learning as they work.

Employers pay apprentices a minimum wage of £95 a week while the College funds and delivers all of the training. The programmes last between 8 and 18 months.

An Apprenticeship is a brilliant first step on a career path in many industries and a great way for employers to recruit and develop new staff in their business.

There are three levels of Apprenticeship available:

Intermediate Level Apprenticeships

  • An Intermediate Level course which means you’ll work towards a National Vocational Qualification Level 2 (NVQ) in your chosen specialist area
  • You’ll also gain Functional Skills qualifications which teach you valuable skills such as Maths, English and in some frameworks, ICT
  • You’ll also learn about Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • The amount of time it should take to complete the training depends on the industry you choose to work in
  • To start this programme, you should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship

If you successfully complete an Intermediate Apprenticeship you can apply to progress on to an Advanced Apprenticeship

Advanced Level Apprenticeships

  • An Advanced Level course which means you’ll work towards a National Vocational Qualification Level 3 (NVQ) in your chosen specialist area
  • You’ll continue to advance your training in Functional Skills
  • The amount of time it should take to complete the training depends on the industry you choose to work in

Higher Apprenticeships

  • Higher Apprenticeships work towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 and, in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation degree.
