The Certificate in Education — Post Compulsory Education (DTLLS) / Professional Graduate Certificate in Education – Post Compulsory Education (DTLLS) is designed for in-service paid lecturers or teachers. People working in the education sector are required to gain a teaching a qualification in order to practice as teachers.
This course provides the necessary professional accreditation for people intending to carry out a full teaching role in the Lifelong Learning Sector. In addition you will gain HE credits that will enable you to progress to a full degree.
This two-year course is run by Walsall College under franchise from Wolverhampton University. As such it is a Higher Education course and therefore follows full University guidelines and procedures.
Upon successful completion you will gain a university certificate and be able to apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills [QTLS] Status in post-compulsory teaching.
You are expected to be proactive with the ability to conduct research and study independently in addition to subject teaching delivery.
This qualification is endorsed by Standards Verification UK (SVUK) and provides the accreditation needed to take on a full teaching role. The course covers planning, pedagogical issues and practitioner research.
The course will centre on a holistic model of critical reflective practice; encourage the use of advanced technologies and digital literacy; encourage the sharing of professional practice; encourage teachers to be enterprising with their ideas and professional teaching practice; examines current national and local Government education policies.
In year one of the course, you will learn to develop reflective practice and will establish a constructive dialogue with your tutor and mentor about your development as a teacher. There will be a focus on planning for teaching and learning and through research explore a range of pedagogic issues.

Entry Requirements
• All candidates will be required to attend a pre-course interview.
• Level 3 qualification in the subject you are currently teaching.
• Access to a minimum of 75 hours teaching practice for year 1 of the course, and 75 hours for year 2.
• Level 2 literacy qualification OR Level 2 literacy score at Key Skills assessment.
• Level 1 numeracy qualification OR Level 1 numeracy score at Key Skills assessment.
• Proof of qualifications will be required at interview.
• Candidates will be required to find a subject specific mentor. This must be someone who has a suitable teaching qualification and at least three year’s substantive teaching experience.
• Candidates should be teaching groups with a minimum of 8 students as the observation process includes both small and large group settings.
• The courses you are teaching must be accredited.

Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or top up to a full BA (Hons) Degree in Education at the University of Wolverhampton.
