Level 1 Wisemore Campus 36 weeks Full Time

This course is essential for those keen to embark on a career in motor vehicle engineering. It may also provide opportunities to enter a career in the wider engineering world, for example public transport services or heavy goods / plant repairs. The course covers components and functions of automotive systems and technologies. You are required to complete eleven units to achieve the award. Units include: vehicle hand skills and manufacturing techniques, vehicle wheels and tyre systems, vehicle braking systems, vehicle steering and suspension systems, vehicle engine operating principles, vehicle engine lubrication systems and vehicle engine cooling systems. Students will also be completing Functional Skills assignments providing an opportunity to improve Maths and English skills. Assessment is continuous through observation of practical tasks and a portfolio of evidence. Private study is required.

 

Entry Requirements

Entry onto this course is via an interview, a selection of dexterity tests (which have a pass mark of 60%), and a minimum of level one initial assessment results in Maths and English and GCSE results in maths, English and/or Science at Grade D or above.

Progression

Progression to a Level 2 course or an Automotive Apprenticeship
