Level 5 Wisemore Campus 3 Years Full Time
The HND Computing aims to prepare you to enter the computing profession and to provide the flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a solid basis for future studies and career development in computing. It involves sixteen units in both hardware and software related subjects. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to undertake a
Microsoft qualification at an appropriate level to enhance your studies. The HND Computing will provide you with a good grounding in software packages popular in industry for developing spreadsheets, databases and presentations together with a thorough understanding of basic hardware components and computer principles.
Students are introduced to an object oriented programming language giving you the skills required for the production of software that is reliable, maintainable and of minimal complexity. You will also learn about end user techniques for a desktop support role (linked with the Microsoft Certification route).
A final project provides the opportunity to apply the various elements of the course, with those who are in employment being encouraged to choose a topic related to their day to day work.
This course equips you with the skills and knowledge required for developing computer programs in a commercial environment. For example, you will be able to demonstrate problem solving techniques relevant to computer systems, project management, analyse and solve typical creative and logistic problems suitable for computer projects and to originate and develop ideas to meet specific client briefs. You will be provided with a thorough grounding for you to achieve this. The HND Computing is a nationally recognised qualif cation for those wishing to become computer professionals.

Entry Requirements
You must have a minimum of level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) English qualification to apply for a student visa. To study a level 5 qualification you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 (or equivalent) and qualifications at the following levels e.g.
• India – Diploma (from a state board of technical education),
• Middle East – Associate Degree/ Higher Technical Institute Diploma,
• China/ Hong Kong – Chinese University/College Entrance Examination (Gaokao),
• Africa – West African GCE A Level.
You will be required to take part in an initial assessment to ensure that the course and level of study is suited to your ability.
Progression
The HND Computing can allow progression to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree as part of Walsall College’s Progression Agreement with several local and regional universities, depending on the match of the HND units to the degree prog
