HND Computing

Level 5 Wisemore Campus One or two years full time Full Time

The course aims to prepare learners to enter the computer profession or for progression to the second part of a degree course. It involves sixteen units studied over two academic years (72 weeks) or a fast-track option over a single academic year (36 weeks) in both hardware and software related subjects. Additionally learners will have the opportunity to undertake a Microsoft qualification at an appropriate level. Homework or private study is required.

The Higher National Diploma in Computing provides students with a good grounding in software packages popular in industry for developing spreadsheets, databases and presentations together with a thorough understanding of basic hardware components and computer principles. Students are introduced to an object oriented programming language giving them the skills required for the production of software that is reliable, maintainable and of minimal complexity. Students also learn about end user techniques for a desktop support role (linked with the Microsoft Certification route). A project provides the opportunity to apply the various elements of the course, with those students who are in employment being encouraged to choose a topic related to their day to day work.
