Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art & Design)

Level 3 wisemore Campus Full Time

The Diploma in Foundation Studies course has three stages; it operates at Level 3 in the first two and then moves to Level 4 in the last stage. It prepares learners to operate well at degree level. It is a folder preparation course, recommended by top universities and is a recognised and valued route for Art & Design learners in all areas. The Exploratory Stage introduces various specialist areas such as Graphics, Textiles, 3D Design, Printmaking, Fine Art and Photography. The Pathway Stage allows learners to specialise in one or two areas that they enjoy most and finally the Confirmatory Stage, develops the learners own ideas for a final major project. Learners may be able to take part in visits to museums and galleries and residential trips. Homework or private study is required

 

Entry Requirements

By interview and initial assessment plus either; a BTEC First Certificate or Diploma, in a related subject, or an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject, or at least 4 GCSEs at Grade A* - C.

Progression

Learners taking the National Diploma in Art and Design and Diploma in Foundation Studies, have successfully
progressed onto a wide range of university courses including; Architecture, Product Design, Fine Art, Animation, Fashion and Textiles, Constructed Textiles, Visual Communications, Graphic Design, Photography, Art History, Ceramics and Glass, Digital Media and Theatre
Design. Learners can also progress to a full range of high quality Higher National Diploma courses at Walsall College;
Graphics, Fashion, Fine Art and Media.
